SAINIK SCHOOL BIJAPUR was the 13th School
to be set up in the chain of Sainik Schools. The
School started functioning on 16th September 1963,
when the foundation stone was laid by late Smt.
Indira Gandhi. The school was originally located
in Vijaya College campus and moved to its present
location in November 1966. The new campus was inaugurated
by Dr. Zakir Hussain the then vice president of
India, on 17 Dec 1966. The school is affiliated
to the CBSE and is a member of the IPSC
LOCATION : The school is located
in a sprawling campus of 406 acres in the famed city
of the world famous Gol Gumbaz. Bijapur, the northern
most district of Karnataka, is on the Solapur ? Hubli
section of the south central railway. It is connected
by road with Solapur, Belgaum and Bangalore. It is
100 km south of Solapur on National Highway No. 13
connecting Solapur with Bangalore. The name Bijapur
is derived from a sanskrit term 'Vijaypura' meaning
'City of Victory'. The city has a population of about
2,50,000. There are two medical colleges, two engineering
colleges and a number of other educational institutions.
The city is fast developing into an important tourist
centre.

CLIMATE & GEOGRAPHICAL FEATURES :
The city of Bijapur is located in the Northern
part of Karnataka ie the interior of the Deccan Plateau.
Its exact location is on the narrow crest of the central
uplands nearly 600 mts above the MSL, to the North
of River Doni basin. The place lies on the dry and
arid tract of the Deccan Plateau. Five rivers namely
Krishna, Ghataprabha, Malaprabha, Bhima and Doni flow
through Bijapur district..
The climate is dry and healthy. The place receives
moderate rain fall from both SW monsoons (June -
Sept) and also the retreating monsoons (Oct - Nov).
The minimum temperature recorded ( in Dec) is 15°c
and maximum temperature is 38°c to 40°c (in the
month of March).
